Understanding LTL Freight Class

LTL pricing is determined by the NMFC (National Motor Freight Classification) system. This ensures fair pricing across the industry by categorizing goods based on four critical factors: density, handling, stowability, and liability.

Not sure of your freight class? Incorrect classification can lead to billing adjustments and delays. Our logistical experts can help you classify your shipment correctly from the start to ensure accurate pricing.

LTL Shipping Questions

You'll need the origin and destination ZIP codes, the accurate weight of the total shipment, the pallet dimensions (L x W x H), and the freight class. If you don't know the class, describe the contents and we'll assist.

Standard carrier liability is included based on the weight and class of the cargo. For high-value goods, we strongly recommend purchasing supplemental freight insurance through Grizzly Allen for peace of mind.

All freight must be securely packaged on standard 48x40 pallets, boxed, or crated. Stack pallets to be stable and utilize shrink wrap or banding to secure the items for the rigors of mechanical handling.
